It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vaughn Keith Gordon, peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre on November 17, 2025, at the age of 78. He is survived by his younger brother Craig Gordon and sister Rhonda Mitchell. Diagnosed in July with the rare Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, Vaughn lived his remaining time as he wished, with a sense of humour. To quote one of his favourite artists “if we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane”.

After satisfying his wanderlust travelling in Europe, across Canada and the US, he settled in Guelph where he drove taxi and eventually had shares in Red Top taxi. “During the more than 30 years he lived in Guelph, he developed many wonderful friendships, with whom he shared—among other things—his love of nature, books, chess, and sports (he was an ardent Maple Leafs fan). Throughout his journey Vaughn was always a caring and loving soul, touching all with whom he spent time.

We were so very blessed by the support we received throughout Vaughn’s final months, and we cannot express enough thanks and love to the close friends and family who were there for him. In addition, our heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s who went above and beyond in their day-to-day care for Vaughn, and for us.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Health Care Guelph – Palliative Care Unit (foundation.sjhcg.ca/ ) or the Guelph Wish Fund for Children (guelphwishfund.com/) or any other children’s wish charity would be very much appreciated.
