Paul Douglas Quigley

23 Aug 1954

22 Dec 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Paul Quigley announce his passing on December 22, 2024 in Kitchener, Ontario, following a gallant fight with Parkinson’s disease.  Paul was born on August 23, 1954; the middle child of Claude and Alice (Roach) Quigley in Grand Falls, NFLD.  He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Brian and Derek, nephew Ryan Quigley, and brother-in-law Larry Steacy.  He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Yvonne Dunne (Gordon), Peg (Dennis Reid) and Debi Steacy; brothers Claude (Jessie Chisholm), Bob, Peter (Liz) and Tony (Sharon); and also many nieces and nephews, most especially, Todd, Sheri and Dwayne Quigley, who grew up with Uncle Paul at all their life events.

Paul moved to Toronto as a teenager and upon retirement from the retail business, he moved to Kitchener to be closer to his sister Peg and her family.  He was a very gentle and quiet individual who enjoyed reading and loved his family.  He was never one to sit still and was always on the go but would always take time for conversation and make you laugh with his stories from days past.  He was very proud to share the fellowship of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob since mother’s day of 1999.

A Memorial Service will take place in Grand Falls-Windsor during the summer of 2025.

I’ll never forget how little fear Paul had growing up….and it stayed with him throughout most of his life…jumping of second falls,Leech Brook…climbing to the top of Pearson’s Peak….setting up a tent on the dummy oh High St…on a dare…hitch hike Ed across Canada numerous times solo….finding hostels to stay in was never a problem for him.He had to be steady go go go …but he still loved to read mostly everything to which we both also shared …..and of course his family …extended nephews and nieces…my kids loved him so cause he made them laugh and became so involved in their lives even when they became adults. But now sadly he is gone home to be with the rest of his family….

I remember Paul as a friend who was a part of our neighbourhood. He was a survivor who I have now learned was plagued by the Parkinson’s disease. I offer my deepest condolences and my thoughts to the Quigley family for your loss of Paul. RIP Paul.

A friend of Paul, Rod Janes, decided to play a prank on Paul one evening. While Paul was visiting Rod, Rod filled Paul’s cowboy boots with shaving foam. When Paul put his foot into the boot, he was very surprised when the foam shot out. All hands thought it was very funny except Paul.
The next day, Rod answered the door only to see Paul standing there with something in his hands. Paul threw what he carried into Rod’s beard. It was “Neet”, used by ladies to remove unwanted hair from their legs. A short while later, Rod had to shave off his beard!
This story was told to me by my good friend, Des Janes (1958-2008). Rod is Des’ older brother.
I knew all of the Quigleys, a fine group of people. I remember Paul as a quiet, easy going person. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Rest in peace, Paul. My condolences to the family and Paul’s friends.
