Sadly, we announce the passing of Gordon Walter Sider on September 21, 2025. Gordon will be deeply missed by his caring wife of 64 years, Beverley, son Donald and friend Claire, daughter Debra, grandchildren Kelsey (Max), Jason (Amanda), Alayna, Michael (Candice), Brian (Marina), and Melissa (Luke), and his seven great-grandchildren.

Gordon grew up as one of eight siblings, born to Eva and Walter Sider in St. Catharines, Ontario, and was predeceased by – dear to him – brothers George (Flo) and Bill (Norma), and his grandson Nicholas. An active member of the Jordan Lions Club through the ‘70s and ‘80s, Gordon gave very generously of his time and energy, coaching and convening minor softball and minor hockey. He was employed at General Motors Powertrain Plant on Glendale Avenue, St. Catharines, for more than thirty years. In retirement, Gordon proudly participated in the lives of his grandchildren (caring for each of them, transporting them to and from school and sports activities, camping, fishing, and sharing with them his many skills in woodworking, gardening, and fixing anything in need of repair), and he played an active role in the Canadian Auto Workers Union.

After a brave battle with cancer, a man who touched the lives of many during the journey of his active life, Gordon passed peacefully at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario. The family thanks Drs. Smith, Richards, and Freidman and is forever grateful to the staff at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario, for the genuine kindness, compassion, and care provided to Gordon in his final days. At Gordon’s request, there will be no funeral or service. The family asks that anyone wishing to honor Gordon may do so with a donation in his memory at Alzheimer.ca
