Whistle Bear Golf Club - 1316 Dickie Settlement Rd, Cambridge

Born on October 7th, 1945, passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2025, at the age of 79. Hugh was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength.

Born in Shelburne, Ontario, Hugh spent his early years in the area before embarking on a journey that would see him impact many lives. A man of great integrity and compassion, he dedicated much of his life to the metal fabrication world and started his own successful business, where his skill and dedication earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

Hugh’s love for his family was unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Caterina (Cathy) Buchanan; his children, Stacy Buchanan (Skye), Scott Buchanan (Tracy); and his grandchildren, Presly, Tyler, Rayven, and Abigail— all of whom were deeply touched by his devotion, wisdom, and caring nature.

In addition to his family, Hugh had a great love for sports, reading, teaching, and traveling. These passions brought him great joy throughout his life. His warm presence and thoughtful conversations will be missed by all who knew him.

Hugh’s legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched over the years. His memory will be cherished forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at Whistle Bear Golf Club on Sunday, March 23rd, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society.

Rest in peace, Hugh. You will be dearly missed.

To the Buchanan family: I was shocked to hear of Hugh’s passing he will be dearly missed. What I remember most about Hugh is that grin he when he was telling you a story! Hugh was extremely proud of his family especially his grandchildren and spoke of them often. Hugh was a simple man with a heart of gold and a friend to anyone in need and always had time for a chat with everyone he met. There were many times I stopped by the shop and he always had time to catch up on what was new in my life and share his adventures. Hugh gave back endlessly to his community both through time and donations. Hugh will live on in as you look at his sons you see a bit of Hugh in both Stacy has his laid back demeanor and Scott his business drive together they will carry on Hugh’s legacy. Hugh was a man everyone liked! Hugh the world was a better place for the small things you did and you will be dearly missed. To the family My sincere condolences his wings were ready but your hearts were not. RIP Hugh I was proud to have known you and call you my friend!

Uncle Hugh was a gentle soul who will be remembered fondly. My best memory is when I was little playing around the property with Hugh and the dogs Buster and Bo. I had so much fun playing that day I cried on the car ride home.

My sincerest condolences to the immediate family
