Murray James Treloar

Murray James Treloar

15 Oct 1936

01 Jul 2026

In the wee small hours of the morning on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Murray James Treloar passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph at the age of 89, embraced by the love of his family.

Murray was born on October 15, 1936, in Toronto, Ontario, to parents Henry Albert Treloar and Margaret Elizabeth Treloar (née Summers). He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Lombard (née Treloar).

Murray would go on to meet and, inevitably, marry the one true love of his life, Janet Elizabeth Treloar (née Snell), on May 16, 1964.

Throughout his life, Murray’s driving force and guiding star was always love. He carried a deep love and passion for the people in his life, and in return they held that same affection for him. An incredibly patient and kind man who never had a bad word to say about anyone, Murray spent his days with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and trivia, often quizzing those he held so dear as though they were contestants on an episode of Jeopardy!

Murray was a massive supporter of the arts in all its forms. He was an avid film buff who would often take the time during the movies he watched to name the other productions the actors on screen had appeared in. His love of music and song was a legacy he proudly passed down to both his children and grandchildren.

Murray was also a sports aficionado who faithfully followed his beloved Maple Leafs and Blue Jays well into his 80s, while simultaneously keeping a record of sports statistics in an almanac of his own. In addition, Murray routinely scored the baseball games he attended with his son, and even digitized some of his records once technology became an unavoidable part of everyday life. Unlike many of his generation, Murray did not shy away from the technological boom later in life, but rather embraced it, often updating his entertainment system with the latest gadgets.

While Murray enjoyed many great passions throughout his life, none was greater than the love he had for his family, especially his wife. He was a truly loving and caring man who will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to have had him in their lives.

Murray is survived by his adoring wife, Janet; his children, Tracy and Timothy; and his grandchildren, Ryan Lucy, Madison, and Cory Treloar.

In accordance with Murray’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. His family will honour and remember him privately, cherishing the many memories and the love he shared throughout his life.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph for the compassionate care and support they provided to Murray.

“This is my quest, to follow that star. No matter how hopeless, no matter how far.

To be willing to give, when there’s no more to give. To be willing to die so that honour and justice may live.

And I know, if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest, that my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I’m laid to my rest.”
