Alice (Allie) Pyke

20 Aug 1939

11 Nov 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Pyke at 86.

Alice Pyke (Ashe) was born on August, 20th, 1939, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. A daughter of Cape Breton, proud of her roots, she carried Nova Scotia with her as life moved her from the East Coast to Ontario. The places that shaped her, like the Hub, never left her heart. Her cross country move to Ontario gifted her the greatest loves of her life: her loving husband Basil and her three daughters Deb (Steve), Lorie (Anthony) and Michelle (Richelle).

A proud and adoring Nana to Melissa (Brendan), Stephanie (Adam), Nicole (Joel), Amy (Justin) and Amanda. Cherished great-grandmother to Jackson, Bennett, Lucas, Gilbert, Ezekiel, Sophie, Maisy, Colton and Layla. Her pride extended to her countless nieces, nephews, cousins, her sisters and brothers-in-law, and the many friends who filled her life with love

Alice lived a life marked by joy.

She found joy in every chapter, through all her careers, including her beloved job at Parkview Daycare. She experienced the gift of joy in long walks, camping trips and watching “just one more” sunset over Lake Huron with loved ones. Joy greeted her during visits back to Glace Bay, in family, tea and laughter. Her joy lived in music, singing, serving others, baking, gardening, crocheting, and never missing a chance to dance. Her joy was rooted in her faith in Jesus, which was gentle, tender and humble. But nothing brought her more love or joy than 53 years with her best friend and husband, Basil, her children and their spouses, her beautiful grandchildren, her precious great-grandchildren, and her cherished extended family and friends. Her joy was made complete in the love she gave and the love she received.

Being the last of her siblings to pass, we trust she is now part of a joyful family reunion: tea on the stove, laughing at the kitchen table surrounded by her parents, Alice and Bob Ashe and her dear sisters and brothers-in-law: Jean (Ron), Kay (John), Russell, and Stewie.

Alice lives on in her legacy of strength, kindness, faith, a good cup of tea and unmistakable joy.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who touched Alice’s life, especially the compassionate and dedicated staff at Elmwood Place at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, who cared for her and our family with such deep kindness in her final years.

A memorial celebration will take place on Friday, November 21st, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at The Carriage House Tea Room (inside Lakeside Church, Guelph), where we will raise a cup of tea in Alice’s honour.

In lieu of flowers, please consider offering a donation in her honour for the healthcare team at St.Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation Guelph: https://foundation.sjhcg.ca/?form=FUNHZDHSPEM
